Internships

The Welcome Desk offers an internship position as a project management assistant at 80% to 100% during 4 to 6 months. This position will be available from April 2013 until the end of September 2013 (or as to be agreed). More details on this internship position are available here.

Volunteering

During sessions of the Human Rights Council, the Welcome Desk works with a team of part- or full-time volunteers.

    Your skills
  • University degree recently finished or ongoing, preferably in international relations, political science, international law, human rights law or related field;
  • Good knowledge of the United Nations Human Rights system;
  • Good knowledge of English and French essential, knowledge of Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian an asset;
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a multicultural team;
  • Enthusiasm, reliability, good manners and good presentation;

Conditions

Duration

Internship: 3 to 6 months. In order to obtain an internship certificate, a minimum duration of 3 months full-time in total (or its equivalent in part-time work) is required for all internships at Mandat International. A volunteer certificate may be obtained for work shorter than this period.

Volunteering: During sessions of the Human Rights Council only (part-time or full-time, flexible schedules). Commitment for a minimum of two sessions required, preference is given to candidates who can commit themselves for more sessions. During sessions, a weekly minimum of three times 3h30 is required. Assisting to preparatory activities before and after sessions is mandatory. These activities will approximately amount to three to four days for training, setting up before and tiding up after sessions as well as a debriefing.

Location

Internship: Office of Mandat International & United Nations Office in Geneva (Palais des Nations).

Volunteering: United Nations Office in Geneva (Palais des Nations).

Stipend

We regret to be unable to pay our interns and volunteers or give them any allowance whatsoever.

Legal requirements

Both interns and volunteers must have their own health and accident insurance valid in Switzerland. Only candidates who are legally entitled to stay and work in Switzerland are eligible (Swiss or European citizenship or residency, student permits).
