Internships and volunteering at the NGO Welcome Desk

Internships

The Welcome Desk offers an internship position as a project management assistant at 80% to 100% during 3 to 4 months. This position will be available from mid-January until end of April 2011 (or as to be agreed). More details on this internship position are available here.

Volunteering

The Welcome Desk is looking for volunteers to complete its team for the following sessions and conferences:

  • from 1st to 12th November 2010
  • from 24th January to 4th February 2011

YOUR TASKS

  • To to answer delegates’ inquiries and requests
  • To follow important events in the Council
  • To check documentation stocks and write down statistics
  • To assist the Welcome Desk staff in their daily tasks
  • To help setting up and taking down the Welcome Desk

YOUR BENEFITS

YOUR SKILLS

  • University degree recently finished or ongoing, preferably in international relations, political science, international law, human rights law or related field
  • Good knowledge of the United Nations Human Rights system
  • Good English skills essential; knowledge of either French or Spanish required; knowledge of Arabic, Chinese or Russian an asset
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a multicultural team
  • Enthusiasm, reliability, good manners and good presentation
  • A sheer interest for human rights.

Practical Information

Duration

Internship: 3 to 4 months
Volunteering: During sessions of the Human Rights Council only (part-time).

For the volunteering positions, preference is given to candidates who are available for several sessions of the Council.

In order to be considered an internship, a minimum duration of 3 months full-time in total (or its equivalent in part-time work) is required, although a volunteer certificate may be obtained for work shorter than this period.

Location

Internship: Office of Mandat international & United Nations Office in Geneva (Palais des Nations).
Volunteering: United Nations Office in Geneva (Palais des Nations).

Remuneration

Please take note that Mandat International is unfortunately not in a position to pay its interns and volunteers or give any allowance whatsoever.

Insurance

Interns and volunteers must have their own health and accident insurance valid in Switzerland.
